Materials have an important role in the sculptural forms and meaning behind the work presented and current works in progress. The use of these materials in conjunction with the concepts of potential growth, male fertility, and relationships within the homosexual community create celebrated statements of possibilities. Latex, bronze, earth, and living plants create a potential for evolving and growing in homosexual relationships through the images of male fertility. The fleshy tone and texture of latex refer to skin and sex, earth and plants give way to the potential for growth and fertility, and bronze holds the history and strength needed to literally support this work. The interaction of the earth filled latex sacks, cast bronze phallic troughs containing earth, and an earth supported latex bed create a metaphor for homosexual issues of growth, relationships, and possibilities. The importance of the materials used in relation to the context of the work help express my hopes of progression, potential, and growth within the context of homogenous relationships. |
